Dayara Bugyal trek
|
Difficulty level: An experienced trekker will do this quite easily, a first time trekker will not find it difficult but will get tired while trekking. The Dayara Bugyal trek can be done by anyone with a decent fitness level. While there are portions that can get tiring, you will not face much difficulty if you are physically active- walk regularly or do some physical activity regularly. If not then you will be comfortable during the trek if you start walking regularly or get physically active in the lead up to the trek. Having a healthy lifestyle is something we generally recommend and we will be happy to help you with a preparation routine in the lead up to the trek.
Is it suitable for children? Yes. The youngest child to do this trek with us was 4 years of age then. But there are certain modifications to the itinerary along with certain additional logistical support that we recommend for small children. Is it a good option for first time trekkers and/or families? Yes, we can recommend this as a first Himalayan trek for those who have little or no prior experience. The trail is well marked and does not have tricky patches. A well planned itinerary for you will also mean it isn't too tiring and you spend more time enjoying the place How many days? We recommend 4-5 days for the Dayara Bugyal trek. It can be done in 3 days as well as extended to 7 days. There are alternate route options so you can modify the number of days, difficulty and experience level. You also have options of starting and ending at different places, do a popular route or an unknown route where you won't find any trekkers or make it very relaxing as well. |
Miles of endless meadows as far the eye can see- thought by many to be among the most beautiful meadow treks. These are towered by some of the most
prominent Himalayan mountains. Dense forests with tall oaks are another feature. All this and more easily make this among our most recommended treks.
Our camp at Barnala, a 5 km trek from the road head. Forests, meadows and snow mountains characterize this camp. Dayara Bugyal is a further 3 km from here through meadows that lead into thick forests
|
Catching a golden sunrise at our Dayara Bugyal camp with nicely saturated hues. A number of prominent mountains are visible in this pic. Panning from left to right you can see Mt Srikanth (20,150 ft.), Mt Jaonli (21,800 ft.) and Mt Draupadi ka Danda (18,800 ft.), Do this trek in Late March or April to get snow like this.

Region: Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand
Maximum height during the trek: Approx 12,000 ft Distance you need to travel by road in mountain roads: Around 180 km one way How much will you be trekking in a day: Between 2 to 3 hours on average during the trekking days. Price range for a fixed departure/custom group with 4+ people: Trek cost for Dayara Bugyal is in the range of Rs 1500 per person per day with budget facilities, around 2,200-2,500 per person per day with premium facilities recommended by us-typically more enjoyable. Happy to help if you need advice on which of the two is more suited to you. Features of this trek: Meadows, dense forests which comprise mostly pine and oak trees, Rhododendron flowers in March and April, close up views of prominent mountains(20,000 ft), trekking in well marked but steep terrain, camping in moderate to cold temperatures What we like about this trek: Among our more recommended treks for those who want a first taste of the Himalayas/ want to initiate their children to the Himalayas/ want a Himalayan experience where they do not exert too much/ an off beat Himalayan experience with family. What we don't like as much: Views of glaciers and snow not as close as some other treks, those looking for something challenging should look at other recommendations. View our upcoming treks this season, click here Need our advice or help with customization? Call/email us or drop a message in the chat box below, we'll get back to you right away Our thoughts in brief: Popular consensus places the Dayara Bugyal trek among the most beautiful meadow treks, and one of the most fulfilling Himalayan trekking experiences whether you are a beginner looking for some soft adventure and a pristine short getaway or whether you want a longer and harder trek which is highly rewarding. This is thanks to the numerous trails that branch out from Dayara Bugyal. Bugyal in the local language means a high altitude meadow and this is among the most beautiful that you will come across in any Himalayan trek because of the terrain, the slopes and views here. This along with it's ease of access optimal trekking times, quick turnaround time in case of any problems make it our most recommended trek for beginners. Our clients have always had good things to say about this trek. The terrain is unique and ever changing. General opinion is that the lower altitude in Kumaoun and Himachal are more beautiful while higher altitude in Garhwal is more beautiful. This proved that wrong with unbroken greenery all the way on this trek. Starting with a thick canopy of forests, followed by vast green meadows that lead into some of the most prominent mountains in the Garhwal Himalayas. This makes Dayara Bugyal an excellent vantage point that showcases a 360 degree view of mountains including the Bandarpunch and Kalanag range, the Gangotri range, Srikanth, Jaonli ranges etc. The trek has ever changing landscape with a variety of views that very few other treks can offer. You can also customize it ranging from anywhere between 3 days to 7 days thanks to numerous route options |
Looking at the campsite in Barnala from a distance and the grassy slopes and dense forests that you cross.
It was a cold night at Dayara Bugyal, but the morning gave us this stellar view!
Forests leading into meadows which then give way to the mountains. Mt Bandarpunch(20,700 ft) is another prominent mountain of the Garhwal Himalayas visible from Dayara Bugyal

Typical Dayara Bugyal itinerary:
This is an indicative itinerary that people usually opt for. Other itinerary options for Dayara Bugyal include starting from Raithal and ending at Barsu, another itinerary option is starting from Sangamchatti and ending at Barsu. There is another itinerary that crosses Darba Top and ends at Hanuman Chatti but this is a difficult route. Speak to us for a customization suited to you. Day 1: Arrive in Barsu(160 km, 6-7 hours): Barsu is Starting point of the Dayara Bugyal trek. This is a beautiful and quaint hill town unlike most towns in Garhwal. A very progressive town and also offers the first views of permanent snow including the Srikanth and Gangotri range. The drive passes Mussourie, the Tehri dam reservoir and Uttarkashi through twisty mountain terrain to reach Barsu. At night camp/at a resort in Barsu Day 2: Trek from Barsu to Barnala(5 km, 2-3 hour trek): Trek 5 km from Barsu to Barnala. The trek is fairly steep and goes through some very dense forests and opens up into a beautiful meadow. All the way offering very beautiful views. Day 3: Trek from Barnala to Dayara Bugyal, camp at Dayara Bugyal at night: A steep 3 km trek one way takes you to the Summit of Dayara Bugyal via the beautiful meadows of Barnala. Here it becomes a very beautiful and gradual walk along beautiful summits of interconnecting meadows and offer a 360 degree view of most prominent mountains in the Garhwal region including the Bandarpunch and Kalanag range along with the Gangotri, Jaonli and Srikanth group to the south. Though it will get cold here at night. Day 4: Trek around Day 5: Trek back to Barsu, drive back |

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?
It was a well organized trek. The guides, helpers were all experienced. The food was great. Kudos to Mr. Hukum chinwan who kept us happy & healthy by his culinary skills. Satya….Mr.Satyajeet sing is the person who made this trek a memorable one. The inputs & guidance given by Mr. Biala, Tapas, Susheel & his father was worth mentioning. Never felt out of place or insecure or anything. End of the day I felt it is the wonderful decision I have taken & came for this trek.
(C) As a first timer trekking in Himalayas how did you feel about the trek?
At the very outset starting from Deharadun to Uttarkashi to our base camp Barsu….it was a mesmerizing journey with mighty mountains & lovely river Bhageerathi following us thought. Thehry reservoir area on the way was breath taking with beautiful scenery. Our trek plan was to Dayara bugyal & we encountered all seasons like rain…hail stone….sunshine. Snow fall started @ 11am & ended by 3am in the night. Thanks in tons to Mr.Satyajeet sing & his team who kept us comfortably even in that adverse weather. We camped @ Barnala that day. One of the happiest moment in my life was that day @ 3am….fully snow covered mountains…trees…tents…ground & silvery moon on the bright sky….it’s like a dream land…true sense it is DEV BHOOMI. There was a heavy rain one day so we could go to Mukbha, Gangamatha temple, pandukeshwar temple with small trek….it was a blessed opportunity on our journey. I never felt I am a first time trekker at all
(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek?
Fitness: Physical as well as mental fitness most required & it is your attitude towards the situation, as our cook Hukuma chinwan says: Bombay ka passion & pahadi ka moussam koyi b predict nahi kar sakthe.
2. There should have been an interaction with the local people, with their culture & beliefs & their life style

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?
I can't think of anything because from the resort to food to guides everything was taken care off. The cook was super amazing and infact the entire staff was very courteous. Though I am back from the hills and its almost a week but I feel I have left behind my heart and mind amidst those beautiful meadows😍
(C) As a first timer trekking in Himalayas, how did you feel about the trek?
Being a first time trekker, the 2day long trek was full of learning & new experiences in the wilderness. Every step that I took just made my belief of never giving up and building up this new passion!
There are 2 or 3 things that will probably come to anyone's mind while doing trekking for the first time (especially when we reach the top):
1. I wish i could keep walking and this trail never ends.
2. I wish i didn't have to go back to the city. i want to live here.
3. In short, if you ever wondered why people get 'infected' with high-altitude enthusiasm and keep going back to the hills every year, you will find your answer right here! !
(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek?
Buckle up trust My Himalayan Adventure!! You are good to go :) !!

B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek
I loved the fact that everything is organised seamlessly. There were no questions or doubts anywhere, things just happened in a very natural manner. Of course that helps when you are in the mountains and everything else is very peaceful. I liked the food, I liked how we were all taken care of and checked on. What I didn't like about the trek is "me" because no matter how healthy you think you are, you cannot compete with the mountain people when it comes to trekking.
C) As a first timer trekking in the Himalayas, how did you feel about the trek?
I think as a first timer its a great experience, just the fact that life could be so good away from the city, the phones and electricity, the trek was actually an excuse to get away from everything but I think I quickly realised how important it was for me to realise that how we lead such unhealhthy lifestyles and we must work on it. Seeing these people run up the mountains so quick only gave me a sense of how we ought to be and what we're not doing right. I think its been a great learning experience and I'd like to do more treks.
D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek
Take it slow, be easy on yourself. Its not a competition. you'll all get there in your own time. sometimes its just great to stop in the middle of nowhere and look at the view, not click it but feel it.

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek:
The planning of the trip was done very well, thanks to Tapas. He changed the trek route a couple of times to suit our requirements. We are so glad that we finally picked this trek because it gave a taste of everything; the forest, the meadows, and the snow capped mountains. The best part about the trek was that we barely saw any other trekkers on our way. So we felt like we had the mountains all for ourselves. We also experienced rain, hail and snow on the way which made the trek more exciting. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this trek.
(C) As a first timer trekking in the Himalayas how did you feel about the trek:
Although the trek is rated for beginners, one should be very prepared and in good physical condition as climb is very steep at some points. As a first timer I was mesmerized at the beauty of the surroundings and now can’t wait to go back.
(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek:
As I mentioned before, please ensure that you are in good physical condition and start working out if you haven’t already.

(B) Things that you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?
Things i loved about the trek are: 1. A very very well planned and cordinated trek.
2. A superb guide(Rajesh) the trek seriously wouldn't be this good if it was not rajesh guiding us all through! He had an excellent knowledge of the place and was a very well trained guide.
3. The experience of campaigning in the meadow of the Garhwal Range
4. Excellent food served in the most remotest place!! Kudos to the cooks
5. The trek was organized at a good price because that's what matters at the end. Value for money
The only thing i didn't like about the entire trek was that neither the guides nor the other locals accompanying were disposing off the waste properly. We camped at two places and at both the places there was plastic waste left behind.
(C) As a first timer trekking in the Himalayas, how did you feel about the trek(if you are a first timer)?
Though this was'nt my first trek, i enjoyed every bit of the climb to bakra top, which is the highest point of Dayara Bugyal. The trek is a leisure climb from the base camp that is Barsu to the top. Nature at its best. The 360 degree view of the entire Garhwal Range is worth capturing. At some places you just stand and stare at the gorgeous snow clad himalayan mountains. Worth every metre that we climbed. Thank you My Himalayn Adventure will be coming back for more!!!!!
(D) Any recommendations for those who are planning to undertake this trek?
The best season to visit would be oct-nov if you want to experience the snow or else for the meadows the best time to visit is may. Just call Tapas and blindly leave for Dayara, he will take care of the rest.
